Notes on Billet Clutch
Assemblies
|
| Servicing
- The more frequently your clutch assembly is serviced the more consistent
your performance will be. By following the directions below you
will obtain maximum performance from your clutch assembly. |
|
| Steel
Surfaces - Should be belt sanded flat. Use a 40-60 grit
sanding belt and replace the belt frequently so that the finished
surface has a nice finish and does not become polished. If you
decide to use a flywheel grinder on the steel surfaces be sure to check
the flatness of the surfaces after grinding. Tapered friction
surfaces will not perform well. |
|
| Bronze
Floater - Should be sanded each time you service the clutch
assembly. The floater can be sanded either on a belt sander or by
hand with a sanding block. Use a 40-60 grit belt and replace it
frequently. |
|
| Clutch discs
- Should be surfaced with a diamond tipped tool on a turntable.
Lightly go over the finished surface with a shop cloth after
turning. Periodically check your clutch machine to ensure the
machine is cutting the surface true from inside to outside Never
resurface clutch discs with a grinding stone as this will reduce the
clutches ability to wear and the performance of your clutch system. |
|
| Pressure
Plates - Inspect the pressure plate each time you service the
clutch. Check the underside of the cover for any cracks in the
cover plate. Periodically remove the 5/16" pin and check for
galling. Apply a small amount of anti-seize to the 5/16" pin
upon reassembly. Check the levers for uneven wear or burrs.
If burrs are present this may indicate that you may need to replace the
release bearing. |
|
| Flywheel
- To resurface the flywheel remove the stand bolts and belt sand the
friction surface. When reinstalling the stand bolts use the cover
to pull the bolts back into the flywheel. Always use loctite on
the flywheel bolts and torque them often. |
